Process Metaphysics

Ready to rethink reality? 

Against the old view of a mechanistic world, process philosophy teaches that reality is alive and evolving.

In this immersive two-week survey course, we’ll consider the history and development of process philosophy, beginning against the backdrop of ancient Greek metaphysics, medieval theology, and the modern conception of nature as a machine. In particular, we will examine the thought of F.W.J. Schelling, A.N. Whitehead, and Pierre Teilhard de Chardin.

This course aims to bridge the Continental and Anglophone traditions. We’ll place Whitehead’s groundbreaking concepts in direct conversation with Schelling’s philosophy of nature and Teilhard de Chardin’s evolutionary cosmic vision.

If you want a general introduction to the history and main ideas of the process tradition as a foundation for further study, this course is for you.
