SUMMARY:Fireside Zoom Chat with Ilia Delio: Word Made Matter
DESCRIPTION:The new science gives us a window to see a new understanding of God in the material world.\nWe will explore some of these new insights by talking about matter\, mind and the fires of the heart.\nChristianity is distinguished by its faith claim\, the divine Word became flesh\, which undergirds the doctrine of the incarnation. Many people think this has something to do with Jesus alone\, not with the world of trees\, stars and chickadees. The historian Lynn White said that Christianity is the most anthropocentric of religions\, focused on supernatural grace. Quantum physics dispels these myths by understanding a new role of mind in matter. The new science gives us a window to see a new understanding of God in the material world. We will explore some of these new insights by talking about matter\, mind and the fires of the heart.

SUMMARY:Healing God\, Healing Self\, Healing Earth
DESCRIPTION:We are a global people on a planet in crisis. \nExtreme weather\, shortages of water and food\, and a swiftly mutating pandemic reveal a climate emergency that is speeding up rather than slowing down. We find ourselves in a wounded world\, desperate for healing. \nThese deep wounds begin with ourselves. Healing the Earth requires that we remedy our dangerous misconceptions: otherworldly spirituality\, human superiority\, and rampant individuality. Only the insights and practices of divine love can save our world: a spirituality of the Earth\, a renewed togetherness with plants and animals\, and a contemplative depth that brings us not only inward but that thrusts us into the very fabric of our living planet. \nJoin us online for our fourth annual conference\, as together we seek healing for our God\, for ourselves\, and for our world in the depths of divine love.

SUMMARY:A Zoom Music Concert with Carrie Newcomer
DESCRIPTION:“We have all lived through a time of great unraveling. Yet\, with great disruption comes a possibility for change.\nWe can’t just be healed; we must be transformed.”\nCarrie Newcomer \n\n  \nThe soulful wisdom of singer-songwriter Carrie Newcomer\, dubbed a “prairie mystic” by the Boston Globe\, offers a balm for this anxious and exhausted age of pandemic and political upheaval. \nIn her songs and poems\, Newcomer tells the universal human story of loss\, resiliency\, spiritual connection\, and hope with the grace\, compassion\, and humor that characterizes her work. She turns our eyes and ears to the growing edges of our lives\, and to the liminal spaces—“betwixt and between” times—urging us to “notice what went unnoticed. And then redeeming those bits and pieces by making something new\,” as she writes in the poem Liminality. \nCarrie is known for her low and resonant voice “..as rich as Godiva Chocolate” according to The Austin Statesman\, for her musical depth and the progressive spiritual content of her songs\, poetry and workshops\, and for her continued work in justice\, spiritual and interfaith communities\, and health and hunger organizations. \n\nCarrie Newcomer is a songwriter\, recording artist\, performer and educator. She has been described as a “prairie mystic” by the Boston Globe and one who “asks all the right questions” by Rolling Stone Magazine. Carrie has 19 nationally released albums. \nRecent appearances include PBS Religion and Ethics and Krista Tippett’s On Being. In 2009 and 2011 Newcomer was invited by the American Embassy of India to be a cultural ambassador\, resulting in her interfaith benefit album Everything is Everywhere with master of the Indian Sarod\, Amjad Ali Khan. In 2016 Carrie was awarded an honorary degree in Music for Social Change from Goshen College. In 2019 she received The Shalem Institutes’s Contemplative Voices Award. In recent years Carrie joined with the author Parker J. Palmer on several projects\, including The Growing Edge collaboration which explores growing edges\, personally\, vocationally and politically. Together they create live events\, personal growth retreats\, and the highly rated The Growing Edge Podcast.During the COVID-19 pandemic\, Carrie was involved with many creative online projects\, including the creation of her own streaming studio\, Available Light Studios. She lives in the wooded hills of South Central Indiana with her husband and two shaggy rescue dogs.

SUMMARY:Reality Ever New
DESCRIPTION:“Blessed be you\, mighty matter\, irresistible march of evolution\, reality ever newborn; you who\, by constantly shattering our mental categories\, force us to go ever further and further in our pursuit of the truth.”\nPierre Teilhard de Chardin \n\nWe have a choice now to turn the fate of the earth into a hopeful future. Our lifestyles need to change; our value systems need to change\, and our belief systems need to change. All institutional religions and places of higher education have a responsibility to ensure a new integrative framework of Science and Religion. We are too stuck in the past and not enough concerned for the future. This is not a topic for academics to debate or the topic of another conference; it is the fate of the earth. \nJoin Ilia & Greg for an exploration of the true “Ecclesia Catholica”—a celebration of\, and participation in\, the dynamic wholeness of God’s endless Creation. In Teilhard’s words\, a “Mass on the Altar of the World” has no boundaries of time or space\, culture or nation\, nature or technology. It is an everyday celebration of emerging wholeness whereby we must always welcome—and commit to help shepherd—the newness arising always around us.

SUMMARY:The Cosmic Vision of Teilhard de Chardin with John Haught
DESCRIPTION:Teilhard’s cosmic vision still offers a rich setting for our understanding not only of life\, but also of mind\, morality\, and religion.\nThis webinar brings out the theological distinctiveness of Teilhard’s vision of life by contrasting it with traditional pre-scientific theologies of life on the one hand and contemporary naturalist/materialist interpretations of life and its evolution on the other. Drawing on his two forthcoming books\, The Cosmic Vision of Teilhard de Chardin (Orbis\, December 2021) and God after Einstein (Yale\, March 2022)\, John Haught argues that Teilhard’s cosmic vision still offers a rich setting\, both intellectually and theologically\, for our understanding not only of life\, but also of mind\, morality\, and religion.

SUMMARY:Updating Teilhard de Chardin from a Modern Scientific Perspective
DESCRIPTION:Teilhard uniquely integrated the scientific knowledge of his day with a spiritual view that he regarded as a metamorphosis of the Christian religion. Today\, he has been largely forgotten by scientists and continues to be read mostly for his spiritual quality. This is unfortunate\, because Teilhard was remarkably prescient about developments in evolutionary science that have only taken place during the last few decades. I will provide a broad overview in an attempt to once again integrate the scientific and spiritual dimensions of Teilhard’s thought. \n“The harmony and order that we associate with the word ‘organism’ indeed has a movable boundary that can be expanded to include biological ecosystems\, human societies\, and conceivably the entire earth. Special conditions are required\, however\, and when these conditions are not met\, evolution takes us where we don’t want to go. There is no master navigator for our journey. We must be the navigators\, consciously evolving our collective future\, and without the compass provided by evolutionary theory\, we will surely be lost.”\n—This View of Life\, p xiv \n\nDavid Sloan Wilson is SUNY Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Binghamton University and president of Prosocial World\, whose mission is “to consciously evolve a world that works for all”. His work represents a paradigm shift in evolutionary thinking: from one that was gene-centric\, framed in terms of selfishness\, and insisted that evolution has no purpose\, to one that includes all variation-selection-replication processes\, can explain the evolution of virtue at face value\, and highlights the possibility and necessity of conscious evolution. The new paradigm provides a new set of tools for positive change efforts in the real world. David’s most recent books include This View of Life: Completing the Darwinian Revolution\, Prosocial: Using Evolutionary Science to Build Productive Equitable\, and Collaborative Groups (with Paul W.B Atkins and Steven C. Hayes)\, and his first novel\, Atlas Hugged: The Autobiography of John Galt III. Perhaps the most accessible introduction to David’s work is his conversation with H.H. Dalai Lama and associated podcast\, organized by the Mind and Life Institute.
